Kitara coach Wasswa Bbosa believes defensive discipline and clinical finishing can help his side overcome Al Ahly in the Caf Confederation Cup.

The Royals host the Egyptian giants at Hoima City Stadium on Saturday, October 17, in the second preliminary round first leg.

Al Ahly’s continental reputation presents a considerable challenge, but Bbosa insists Kitara have identified opportunities to trouble their opponents.

“We have watched some of their games, and we are confident that we can hurt them and knock them out of the competition,” Bbosa said.

“Our players are focused, and that is exactly what you want to see as a coach.”

Organisation before ambition

Bbosa’s preparations have centred on maintaining defensive compactness while ensuring Kitara can attack without leaving themselves exposed when possession changes hands.

“When you play against big teams like Al Ahly, games are often decided by small moments,” he explained.

“That is why we are working on staying compact defensively, attacking in numbers and ensuring we have enough players behind the ball when we lose possession.”

His message also places responsibility on the forwards, whose efficiency could determine whether Kitara secure an advantage before travelling to Cairo.

“We must defend well, avoid conceding and take the chances we create.”

Kitara began their domestic campaign with successive 1-1 draws against SC Villa and Express, raising concerns about wasted scoring opportunities.

Victories over Kigezi Homeboyz (1-0) and Kataka (2-1) have since improved results, giving Bbosa encouragement ahead of the continental assignment.

The coach also reported a clean bill of health within his squad. “Our players are all fit and injury-free, and we want to keep it that way,” he said.

“We respect Al Ahly, but that should not stop us from putting up a strong performance and getting a positive result.”

Saturday’s match kicks off at 4pm, with the return leg scheduled for October 24 in Cairo. The aggregate winner advances to the group stage.
