Kitara FC completed the job against Mogadishu City Club with a 2-0 victory at Hoima City Stadium on Saturday, advancing 4-1 on aggregate in the CAF Confederation Cup.

Jimmy Kalema and Frank Tuwesigye Zaga scored in either half as the Royals built on their 2-1 first-leg advantage to secure passage to the next round.

Kitara made changes to the side that had won the opening leg, with Joel Mutakubwa starting in goal ahead of Meddie Kibirige.

Murushid Juuko, who missed the first leg, also came into the starting XI at the heart of defence in place of Benjamin Nyakojo.

Kalema, who had proved decisive in the opening encounter with a brace, again delivered for Kitara when he opened the scoring following good work from Patrick Kaddu.

Kaddu released Kalema into a dangerous position before the forward fired at Mogadishu City goalkeeper Yusuf Yusuf, who failed to hold the effort.

Kalema reacted quickest to the loose ball and tucked home the rebound, giving Kitara further breathing room in a tie they had started with a one-goal advantage.

Mogadishu City needed a response to revive their hopes, but Kitara remained composed and protected their advantage as they went into the break ahead.

The Royals then put the contest beyond the Somali side in the 62nd minute through Tuwesigye.

Captain Jasper Aheebwa headed a cross from Kabon Living into the path of Tuwesigye, who produced a well-taken volley to double Kitara’s lead on the afternoon.

The goal stretched Kitara’s aggregate advantage to 4-1 and left Mogadishu City requiring an unlikely comeback against a side firmly in control of proceedings.

Kitara managed the remainder of the game professionally, keeping their opponents out to complete a clean sheet and register a second victory over Mogadishu City in the space of a week.

The result represents another significant step in Kitara’s continental journey after they entered the return leg carrying a 2-1 advantage from the first meeting at the same venue.

Kalema’s contribution across the two legs proved particularly decisive, with the forward scoring three times in the tie, while Tuwesigye’s second-half strike ensured there would be no late drama in Hoima.

Progress now brings a considerably bigger challenge for Kitara, with Egyptian giants Al Ahly waiting in the next round of the CAF Confederation Cup.

The second preliminary-round first legs will be played between October 16 and 18, with the return fixtures scheduled for October 23 to 25.

Kitara move from overcoming Mogadishu City 4-1 on aggregate to testing themselves against one of African football’s biggest clubs as their continental campaign gathers momentum.
