KAMPALA. Uganda Martyrs Lubaga WFC captain Gloria Namugerwa has credited thorough preparations and an improved squad for their strong start to the 2026/27 Fufa Women Super League.

The Lubaga-based side defeated Jinja United Women FC on Matchday Six, returning to winning ways after losing to Kawempe Muslim Ladies and drawing with She Corporate.

The result left Uganda Martyrs top of the table with 13 points from four victories, one draw and one defeat.

Speaking after the victory, Namugerwa said the team’s performances reflected the work invested in preparing for the campaign and integrating new players.

“This season, we have changed quite a lot of things. We have new faces who have been a good addition to the team, alongside our old players,” she said.

“We have done so much and had enough preparations. What we are achieving is not a surprise.”

Namugerwa also praised the technical team for organising the squad, while highlighting the players’ shared responsibility to maintain their competitive standards.

“The coaches have tried to organise us, and as players, we have been working so hard to keep the fire burning,” she said.

“Before entering any game, we make promises to ourselves and to the entire team. We have one goal: to win each and every game that comes our way.”

Angel Auki Kigongo earned the Woman of the Match award against Jinja United, collecting the honour for the third time this season.

Her latest recognition added an individual highlight to an important team result, as Uganda Martyrs recovered from successive matches without victory.

With the campaign still in its early stages, maintaining that response and consistency will be central to Uganda Martyrs’ hopes of staying at the summit.
