Uganda’s motorsport authorities are widening their search for future talent beyond rally cars and traditional competition with the return of the FMU Esports Championship.

The 2026 championship which starts on Sunday September 27th, 2026 at Fun Station Hub at Metroplex Naalya in Kampala will feature four rounds of WRC rally simulation, bringing together sim racers from across Uganda on a national leaderboard.

The Federation of Motor Sports Clubs of Uganda (FMU) and Motor Sports Association Club (MOSAC) are organising the championship, with thinkIT coming aboard as lead naming sponsor and digital partner.

Rather than positioning esports purely as entertainment, organisers want the championship to provide young competitors with an accessible entry point into Uganda’s wider motorsport community.

“We are excited to grow esports motorsport in Uganda, attract more young fans and create a clear pathway for talent to move into digital motorsport,” FMU Esports Coordinator Leon Ssenyange said.

The championship begins with its opening round from September 27, before the second round runs from November 6 to 8.

Round three is scheduled for December 4 to 6, with the fourth and final round taking place from December 18 to 20.

All four rounds will be staged at Fun Station Hub, with competitors accumulating points across the championship.

The series builds on the 2025 championship, when Jua Kali dominated the competition with a perfect record across all four rounds.

Jua Kali collected 50 points from each round to finish with 200 points, comfortably ahead of second-placed It’s Omar on 156.

GR Sport finished another three points behind on 153, while Katende Miguel accumulated 127 points to take fourth position.

The Icon completed the top five with 100 points, illustrating the gap Jua Kali established during his unbeaten championship campaign.

For 2026, organisers are looking beyond competition results by attempting to strengthen the infrastructure surrounding Uganda’s developing esports motorsport scene.

thinkIT is expected to support digital systems, championship branding, communications and event delivery as part of its partnership.

Brian Gitta, the thinkIT CEO and co-founder, believes the championship can provide another platform for developing Uganda’s future rally talent.

“We are proud to support the championship as both lead naming sponsor and digital partner,” Gitta said.

“This partnership is about building a modern, accessible and exciting platform for the next generation of rally talent.”

FMU remains the governing and sanctioning authority, while MOSAC serves as the championship’s technical organiser.

The bigger test will be whether the championship can turn growing interest in simulation racing into a sustainable development pathway.

For young Ugandans unable to immediately access the financial and logistical demands of conventional motorsport, simulation offers another environment to compete, develop skills and become part of the sport.

With an established championship format, returning competitors and new commercial backing, the 2026 season provides another opportunity to measure how far Uganda’s digital motorsport community can grow.
